Alba Ranch is our name for our little dream place in the mountains of Colorado. ‘Alba’ is the old Scottish name for Scotland, where my husband is from and where we spent the first six and a half years of our married life together.
We had decided that we wanted to get out of the mainstream, get a little bit of land and perhaps do a little ‘homesteading’. We looked around in Scotland, but land prices were very high there, and it’s almost impossible these days to build new houses in the countryside there. So we shifted our search across the Atlantic, first to Michigan, my home state, and then to Colorado. We found our current property on the internet, along with others. We came to visit and check out the area and bought our land on that trip. We had intended for it to be our ‘retirement plan’, but then decided that there was no point in waiting that long, so we moved back across the pond 2 years later.
We have chickens for fresh eggs; milk goats for (surprise, surprise!) milk; Angora Rabbits, so that I can spin and weave their fleece and meat Rabbits for (surprise, surprise!) meat.
As well as sending me an email you can also visit our Etsy.com On-Line Store too.
