I have a new custom made instrument to use in Sound Therapy Sessions. I am excited. It is a Monochord Chair. What the heck is that you might ask? Well a Monochord originally was an ancient instrument. Invented about 500 BC in Greece. It originally consisted of one string with a moveable bridge. It illustrated the mathematical properties of pitch. Showed how the length of a string can change the pitch. And it measured musical intervals. All very scientific and part of the Pythagorean Theory.

Today, a monochord is generally considered one note. But the instrument can have many strings tuned to that one note. There may be 40 strings on a larger monochord that would be mostly all tuned to the exact same note. A few could be tuned to the same note but an octave higher or lower than the main note. Some Monochords have moveable bridges set and some have various notes on one side of the strings that add a few chords to the original main note. When those are added, the instrument is technically no longer a monochord and becomes a different instrument. I would play it and use it roughly the same in Sound Therapy Sessions though. Some versions have strings on both sides so you can play it vertically on it’s end as you play both sides. Or you can put it on legs or feet, which raise it up and allow you to flip the instrument and play both sides at same time.
Repetitive stroking and playing of the strings induces a calmness and relaxation that can be felt. Laying the monochord on a person’s body, for instance, turns the body into part of the resonance of the instrument. It increases the vibration. Attaching the monochord to a chair base (which is how mine is) allows someone to sit in the chair, lean against the body of the monochord and FEEL the vibration of the notes in their entire body. It is an experience.

My Monochord has 46 strings and was made by Meerklang. The commission process was relatively simple, their work on the Monochord is lovely, and it was made and shipped very quickly. You can visit their website Here. I use it in part of a sound healing session or it can even be a Monochord Chair ONLY session if you desire. There is no real way to describe how it sounds or what it can make your body feel, it must be experienced. The relaxation that comes from using the chair in even a short session is powerful and amazing. I had my monochord chair custom made and tuned to C# with the perfect fifth of G# added to make a fuller sound. It matches my Handpan tunings and my main Crystal Singing Bowl scale. I can use it with both of those instruments or solo as the only instrument. I can use it on the chair base, take it off and lay it on your body while you lie on the massage table, or attach it’s legs and play it at the table. This Monochord is very versatile.
I am so excited to offer sessions with the monochord chair so that you can enjoy it also. I will be starting with Monochord ONLY sessions that are 15 minutes. A Sound Healing Session is generally an hour session involving several different instruments. I have added an in between session that is Monochord and Crystal Bowls Only for a 30 minute session.

I will use the Monochord in part of a Sound Healing Session but wanted to offer a shorter Monochord only session and the medium length Monochord and Crystal Bowl session. You can find both new sessions in the Appointment App online.
